Early Challenges and Beginnings
My name is Dexter Bayack, and I am the proud owner of See Near Me. In 1994, my first son was born, and I was on welfare and in need of a job. I found part-time work as a UPS driver, but it wasn't enough to support a family. I borrowed $100 from a cousin to start a mobile window tinting business. This allowed me to manage both jobs during that challenging time. I left UPS in 1997 to pursue window tinting full-time.
I opened a tint shop in Brooklyn, which grew rapidly to $100,000 in annual revenue within three years. This success even led to a feature in the New York Daily News. I have tinted over 50,000 vehicles and provided consulting, contract work, and project management for numerous tint shops in Houston, Florida, and New York. While I cherish these experiences, I realized this approach wasn't scalable and was eager to explore new growth opportunities.
Transitioning Careers: From Automotive to Media and Technology
I left New York in 2003 and moved to Tampa. After the 2007 housing crash, I decided to relocate to Houston in search of new opportunities. I shifted my focus from the automotive industry to media and technology, driven by my desire to support small businesses and make a mark in the tech world. My journey was about learning web development and videography, inspired by my love for small businesses and local culture. Ultimately, this passion led me to develop four platforms.
Some of my work includes:
The Birth of See Near Me
In 2019, I moved back to Tampa Bay to care for my parents and a troubled child. I experienced burnout from content creation, which negatively impacted my finances. To generate income, I returned to my automotive roots and focused on my window tinting business. To increase awareness, I launched See Near Me.
Confronting Doubt: My Battle with Impostor Syndrome and Finding My Voice
The biggest challenge I faced was impostor syndrome, which often made me doubt my abilities and achievements. When I was 10, my father advised me to be ten times better than others to get the same opportunities, explaining that race played a big role in this. His words stayed with me over the years. I keep records of my work to ensure I'm recognized as an equal and not overlooked. "See Near Me" is the fruit of many years of hard work.
Rethinking Business Models for Fairness
Search engines have grown so vast that they now require careful organization, and platforms have become quite extensive, making browsing difficult without practical search tools and a clear structure. While platforms thrive thanks to their members' efforts, users often feel they aren't receiving enough benefits. The current way of doing business isn't working well, and it's time to explore new ideas that strike a better balance between making a profit and serving the community by sharing power and resources more fairly.
See Near Me offers a great way to support fellow small business owners in reaching their goals. I'm here to help creators and small businesses thrive in the ever-changing digital world by providing the t

That Video Mag blew it out of the park with this one! I've received numerous phone calls from people wanting turntables fixed, making it hard to keep track—massive shout-out to That Video Mag for making things happen for the little guy.

Great Job! / Best Audio VisualDexter is one of Houston's leading minds when it comes to the concept of media. Beyond that, he practices what he preaches, ensuring exclusive, premium video coverage of events that would otherwise remain outside the media realm of those most caring about them. Dexter is a worthy advocate of the cause of better stories in a market somewhat behind on its overall media coverage.
LinkedIn / Daniel CohenDexter is dedicated and gifted at his craft. Business-minded and professional at creating and producing strong a deliverable throughout the digital medium platform. He has produced broadcast-quality videos, websites, and marketing campaigns for many of our ventures.
LinkedIn / John WhaleyDexter has a cutting-edge video production style that stands out. He is also very involved in supporting Houston's tech and social media community, with a heart for start-ups. I highly recommend his work.
LinkedIn / Kami Watson HuyseI've already been hired for multiple video projects for That Video Mag, and what I can say is it has been one of the most seamless experiences I've encountered with any client. I will continue to work with That Video Mag. It's definitely been a good experience. I am looking forward to seeing this brand grow!
My review of working with That Video Mag / Albert PolancoI find more value in the Localsiknow platform than in prominent networking platforms like Meetup and LinkedIn. Their focus on artists AND entrepreneurs strikes the right balance between business and entertainment. Unlike the other platforms, there aren’t just a bunch of entrepreneurs “networking” with other entrepreneurs or artists performing for other artists. Their platform feels organic and homegrown, and the diversity feels fresh.
